Facts about the Teacher Center
The Teacher Center was created to give teachers the opportunity to strenghten their professional skills through a variety of staff development options offered in a collegial environment. The Teacher Center began in July of 1986 with the endorsements of the participating districts and the local collective bargaining agents. From the modest number of 320 educators, it has expanded to serve over 1,700 members. The Teacher Center is funded through a legislative New York State grant. A Policy Board governs the Teacher Center with a majority of board members being teachers designated by the collective bargaining agents. Other members represent the participating districts, BOCES, area institutions of higher education, local business and industry, non-public schools and parents.
