2011 Hall Of Fame Inductees

             Six former ACS athletes and one team were honored at the 2011 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner.  The event, held April 30 at The Lodge At Hidden Valley, was organized by the Attica Booster Club.

            Inductees are selected to recognize the contributions they have made to the ACS athletic program.  They can be athletes, teams, coaches, teachers, administrators, and / or special contributors to Attica's rich sports history. 

            This year's inductees include:

 

Barb Dominesey, Class of 1980 

            Barb Dominesey (nee Boxler) lettered in five different varsity sports, served as a captain of four of them, and was named to numerous All-League teams. 

            She played soccer for three years, and was awarded the Most Valuable Player in her senior year.

            In basketball, she was selected a captain, first team All-League and MVP of the divisional championship team during her senior year.

            A three-year starter in softball, she was a member of an undefeated league championship team, a two time All-League selection, a first team Class B sectional selection, and was the MVP in her senior year.

            Other honors include her being named the Female Athlete of the Year in 1978.

            She furthered her education at Rutgers University, where she was a four-year letter winner in volleyball and was named the Rutgers MVP in 1984.

            Mrs. Dominesey is presently ACS' volleyball coach.  She is credited for developing ACS' program into one of the Section V elite.

 

Jim Henneberg, Class of 1958

            A multi-sport athlete, Jim Henneberg successfully played baseball and tennis for two years and competed in cross-country and basketball for four.  During his senior year, he was captain of the basketball team.

            After graduating from ACS, he went on to earn a physical education degree from Cortland State College and his Master’s from Buffalo State College.

            Mr. Henneberg begahis teaching and coaching career at Penn Yan Academy.  Two years later, he joined the faculty at Hamburg High School where he spent the next 36 years and established himself as one of school’s all-time successful coaches.

 

Louie Janes, Class of 1959

            Louie Janes played football and basketball for three years and participated in track for a year while a student at ACS.  However, it is for his distinguished contributions to the Attica community and school district that the Hall of Fame committee proudly honors him.

            Whenever there is a school or community event in need of fundraising, you will find Mr. Janes in the middle of it or directing it.  In his generous assistance to ACS' academic and athletic programs he has stepped up the plate numerous times, and each time hit a home run.

 

Jack Kasprzyk, Class of 1969

            Jack Kasprzyk was a multi-sport athlete who competed in basketball for two years, and in football and track for four years.

            During his senior year, he was selected as team captain of his football and track teams, and was a First Team All-League selection in both sports.

            A fullback on the football team, he averaged over 100 yards rushing each game during his junior and senior years.  He was a three-time Honorable Mention All-Greater Rochester Football team selection.

            On the track team, he was as versatile a performer as ACS has ever had.  He ran in three different sprint races and competed in five different field events.  He still holds the school record in the long jump.

            Upon high school graduation, Mr. Kasprzyk attended Bloomsburg College on a full football scholarship.

 

Ed Romesser, Class of 1970

            Ed Romesser participated in football, wrestling, and baseball during each of his four years of high school and was a team captain in all three sports during his senior year.

            He was a first team All-League football selection both his junior and senior years.  During his senior year, he also earned the distinction of being the first-ever ACS athlete named to the All-Greater Rochester football first team.

            As a wrestler, he was a member of the 1968 Class B Sectional championship team, and was a two-time Wyoming County champion.

            He was an All-League catcher his junior and senior years, and a member of Attica’s 1970 League Championship baseball team.

            All this earned him recognition in his senior year as the Male Athlete of the Year.

            After graduation, Mr. Romesser continued his involvement in Attica’s youth programs by coaching AYA wrestling and baseball for many years.

 

Mike Trauscht, Class of 1956

            While at Attica High School, Mike Trauscht participated in football, wrestling, and track.

            On the track team, he ran the 100-yard dash and anchored ACS’ highly successful relay teams. 

            It was in wrestling, however, that he excelled.  A varsity starter for four years, and elected a team captain in his junior and senior years, he had incredible success losing just two matches his entire career.  He was a four-time League champion and a three-time Sectional champion at 98 pounds, 103 pounds, and 112 pounds.

            After graduation, Mr. Trauscht continued his interest in the sport, becoming a high school and college wrestling official.  In the community, he served as the AYA football commissioner for a number of years, and in 1972 inaugurated the highly successful AYA wrestling program.

 

1975-76 Volleyball Team

            The volleyball team of the 1975-76 season consisted of an extremely talented group of athletes determined to make their mark in the recently formed Genesee Region Volleyball League.

            Their pre-season goals were high, matched by their performances on the volleyball court that season which concluded with an undefeated 12-0 league record and Attica’s Class B Sectional Volleyball championship.

            The 1975-76 volleyball team and its coach set a standard for excellence at Attica High School that is still present today.
