Bullying Prevention Program (OLWEUS)
The Attica Middle School cares about the safety and well-being of our students. We want to make sure our school is a safe place for students to learn. To assist with this, we will be utilizing a program called the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.
The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) is a well known bullying prevention program that has been proven to prevent or reduce bullying.
The goals of OBPP are to reduce bullying situations and prevent new bullying issues from happening. The program also works to build positive relationships between students, as well as between students and adults. The program is for all students, not just those who are being bullied or who are bullying others. Monthly Themes have been developed starting with “Building a Positive Classroom Environment” for September. Students will participate in weekly classroom meetings starting this week, where lessons will be implemented relevant to the monthly themes.
Parents and guardians play a key role in this program. Your child will be asked to tell an adult at school and at home if he or she is bullied or sees bullying happening at school. Our school staff members are being trained to deal with bullying situations when they are notified of a situation or see bullying happening.
Having a safe school experience is something that is important to all of us and will be our priority for the school year. If you have any questions about the program, please call your child’s teacher or Mr. Clark @ Ext. 1500.
