NOTICE OF ANNUAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
PUBLIC HEARING AND VOTE
The Board of
Education of the Attica Central School District has scheduled a Public Hearing
on May 3, 2016
at 7:00 p.m. at the Attica Central School Performing Arts Center
(Auditorium), 3338 E. Main Street, Attica, NY, for the purpose of receiving
citizen suggestions concerning the 2016-17 Budget, and the transaction of such
purpose as is authorized by the Education Law.
HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to a resolution by the Board of Education, voting on
the questions and elections will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, from 1:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the following locations:
v For Attica
Central School District residents of Village of Attica, Town of Attica, Town of
Middlebury, and Town of Alexander, voting will be held at the Performing Arts
Center (Auditorium) Lobby, 3338 E. Main St., Attica, NY.
v For Attica
Central School District residents of Towns of Bennington, Wales, and Darien,
voting will be held at the Bennington Town Hall, Clinton St., Bennington, NY.
v For Attica
Central School District residents of Towns of Orangeville, Sheldon, Java, and
Wethersfield, voting will be held at Sheldon Town Hall, 1380 Centerline Road,
IS REQUIRED FOR ALL VOTERS AND WILL BE ASKED FOR BY THE CLERKS AND INSPECTORS
IN EACH LOCATION.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, THAT THERE IS
A VOTE ON THE FOLLOWING:
- BASIC BUDGET
–Shall the Budget for the 2016-17 school year in the amount of $27,409,724, as
submitted by the Board of Education of the Attica Central School District be
approved and shall taxes be levied upon the taxable property of the School
District to meet the requirements of said Budget?
– SCHOOL VEHICLE PURCHASE – Shall the Attica Central School District be
authorized to undertake the acquisition of a 22-passenger bus at an estimated
maximum cost of $50,000, and one school van at an estimated maximum cost of $24,000,
all at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $74,000, less trade-in value, if
any, and that such costs, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be
raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments; and, in
anticipation of such tax, debt obligations of the school district as may be
necessary not to exceed such estimated maximum aggregate cost shall be issued,
or the school district may enter into an installment purchase contract if the
Board of Education determines that it is in the best interest of the school
district to finance the purchase in that method.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money
which will be required for the ensuing year for the purposes exclusive of
public monies and the tax exemption report may be obtained by any voter in the
District during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the vote from the
Clerk’s Office on any day school is in session between the hours of 8:00 a.m.
and 4:00 p.m.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Board Member Election will be held on Tuesday, May 17,
2016, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There
are two (2) seats to be filled for three (3) year terms on the Board of
Education. Completed candidate
nominating petitions were received in the District Clerk’s office, 3338 East
Main St., Attica, NY, by 5:00 p.m. on April 18, 2016. The candidates are: Jessica Gugliuzza, Thane Wright, Rhonda A.
Tokarczyk, Melanie Toland-George, Lorri Warwick.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots will be
obtainable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday,
except holidays, from the District Clerk.
Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least
seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter,
or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to
the voter. Absentee ballots must be received
by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Tuesday,
May 17, 2016. A list of all persons to
whom absentee ballots have been issued shall be maintained by the District
Clerk/Designee and made available for public inspection. Any qualified voter challenging the acceptance
of an absentee ballot must file a written statement with the District Clerk/designee
or inform the election inspectors on the day of the election. Pursuant to provisions of Education Law, a
district voter is eligible to vote by absentee ballot under the following
conditions: Illness or physical
disability, business responsibilities which require travel outside of the
county or city of residence on the day of election (proof is required),
vacation outside of the county or city of residence, or detention or
confinement to jail (unless incarcerated for conviction of a felony).
