PHYSICAL EDUCATION 9-12
The Attica Physical Education program is dedicated to promoting lifetime fitness and physical activity, and enhancing personal fitness, health and wellness for all students. The focus of the curriculum is to help all students become informed, independent decision makers capable of planning for enjoyable lifetime fitness and physical activity and achieving personal fitness and sport activity goals. The physical education program aligns the curriculum and instruction with the New York State Learning Standards and categories (team passing sports, net/wall sports, striking/fielding sports, target sports, dance and aesthetics, outdoor activities, personal performance activities, personal fitness activities.
ADVANCED COMPETITIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION
A course designed for those students who wish to participate in more team/traditional activities at a more competitive level with a focus on game play and performance. Strategies and higher levels of play will be an emphasis for each activity. Students will be involved in traditional sports/activities and their role as a more advanced participant. Activities: badminton, basketball, flag football, floor hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, softball, among others.
This class will be offered in place of the students regular Physical Education class.
WEIGHT TRAINING/CARDIO-RESPIRATORY
The weightlifting class is designed to provide each student with the knowledge needed to understand the importance of strength and fitness training. Students will understand the importance of setting goals for personal improvement and achievement, and will leave the class with a lifelong understanding of how to maintain adequate physical fitness for a healthy lifestyle.
