How to Find a Good Book

There are many ways to find a book that you will enjoy:

  • Ask for recommendations!

    • Ask a friend

    • Ask your teacher

    • Ask your school librarian or a public librarian

  • Look at the bestseller list! 

    • The New York Times lists the bestselling books from several categories including the top ten middle school grade:  Chapter Books and Series Books. 

  • Try an award winner. They are ALWAYS good!

    • The Newbery Medal is awarded every year by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. The list of winners is here: Newbery Medal Winners

    • The Printz Award is an award for a book that is an example of literary excellence in young adult literature. The list of winners is here: Printz Award Winners

  •  Try these links: What Should I Read Next or The Book Seer Just enter a title or author of a book you enjoyed reading and you will be provided with a list of similar books! Or use this link to find the next book in a series: FictFact

  •  Search the OPAC using a subject term for something YOU LIKE or something YOU DO! (For example: sports, horses, music, etc.)
