Ross Roberts, a senior building maintenance mechanic, has been named an Attica All-Star under a new, districtwide employee recognition program.

“It takes an incredible amount of work to keep our district up and running to meet the needs of our students, but a lot of that work is done behind the scenes,” said Superintendent Dr. Kiel Illg. ”Our hope with this new recognition program is to be able to highlight those members of our staff - and there are many - that go above and beyond for the benefit of our students.”

Roberts, a district employee for at least the past 20 years, was nominated for the inaugural recognition by Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations Meaghan Matuszak and Food Service Manager Kris Wicks.

In her nomination, Matuszak cited Roberts’ work on the district’s new athletic storage facility between Alumni Field and the Middle School parking lot.

“To have someone on staff willing to go above and beyond to take on, build and oversee the completion of such a building is incredible,” said Matuszak. “The qualifications Ross possesses are a huge asset to our organization. The district truly would not have that building on campus without him. Ross works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure this campus is operating at its best.”

Wicks, meanwhile, held up Roberts’ work with the district’s food service department to reconfigure the middle and high school cafeteria serving lines this past summer.

“He included me in the project throughout its duration and got it all right,” said Wicks. “He even worked over the holiday weekend to make sure it was all up and running correctly.”

Roberts’ supervisor, Director of Facilities David Barber, called Roberts “unique” in that he can do “anything.”

“I swear to God - he could build a rocket and launch it. Any challenge that you face where you need somebody to construct something or get you out of a jam, he can do it,” said Barber. “That’s just the way he thinks and that's the way he's wired.”

Nominees for future Attica All-Star recognitions can be submitted to your building administrator or direct supervisor. Nominees can be any district employee that goes beyond the usual scope of their duties and whose efforts have a positive impact on students and the district. Nominees will be considered by the district’s leadership team and recipients will be announced every few weeks.
