Breaking news out of Attica this morning as All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and All-Everything Music Superstar Taylor Swift were spotted together wandering the hallways of Attica Elementary School. The couple was kind enough to pose for a photo before departing - presumably to one of their mansions to polish their Lombardi Trophies and Grammy Awards. Gosh darn it, they’re a cute couple.

Great turnout Friday evening at our Middle School Compact Team’s annual Trunk or Treat event! Alanna Pellicane of Pellicane Photography was on the scene and grabbed some great shots, which we’ve shared here.

Third graders in Alyssa Allein’s and Lauren Kocher’s third grade classes experimented with yeast, hydrogen peroxide, disp soap and food coloring to create Elephant’s Toothpaste last week. Students predicted what would happen when the substances were mixed together, observed what happened when they were mixed and then made a conclusion about what had just happened. Alyssa Allein’s and Lauren Kocher’s third grade students had a blast doing their Elephant's Toothpaste experiment last week in science class - see for yourself! (Footage courtesy of Alyssa Allein)

Our Middle School Library recently transformed for a Halloween-themed book tasting event put on by Library Media Specialist Stacey Donahue. “I set the tables with books that featured ghosts, werewolves, teen vampires, witches, or supernatural mysteries and then, with my best witch’s cackle, welcomed ‘My pretties’ into the library if they dared enter,” said Donahue. “I spoke to them about how important it is to find a book that they’re interested in and that the best way to do that is to sample, or ‘taste’ the book.” After a flashlight-illuminated read-aloud of the first chapter of “The Graveyard Book,”a Newbery Award-winning book by Neil Gaiman, students set out to read the back cover, inside flap and first few pages of a book on their table. They filled out a quick worksheet to tell Donahue whether or not the book hooked them and if they thought it was scary. Students then had the option of checking the book out or sampling another. Donahue’s next book tasting, Attica Middle School Runs on Reading, is scheduled for Nov. 13. (Photos courtesy of Stacey Donahue)

We are pleased to announce that all students enrolled at Attica Central School District will be able to receive a FREE breakfast and lunch meal at school beginning on November 1st, 2023. CEP allows eligible schools participating in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs to offer school meals at no charge to all students. This means that as of November 1st, 2023, all students enrolled at Attica Central School will receive meals at no cost to your household. No further action is required of you. If you have any further questions, please contact Ms. Wicks, Food Service Director, at (585) 591-0400 x 1195. Thank you.

Seniors Ellie Cusmano, Elise Dressel and Maddie Robinson have been named Genesee Region League Volleyball All-Stars while junior Nalani Mercado earned an honorable mention recognition. Ellie was also named Genesee Region League Player of the Year - the second straight year she’s taken the league’s top honor - while Nicole Parkhurst was voted Coach of the Year by her fellow league coaches. Through 17 regular season matches, Ellie, an outside hitter, leads Attica in kills (227) to go along with 142 digs and 53 aces while Maddie is the Blue Devils’ leader in aces (76) and digs (179) and second only to Ellie in kills (159). Elise, a setter, has 427 assists, 49 aces and 61 digs on the season while Nalani, a right-side hitter, has 52 assists, 45 aces and 133 digs heading into the postseason. Parkhurst took over Attica’s varsity volleyball program during its COVID-affected season in spring 2021. In her four seasons at the helm, Parkhurst’s teams have gone 66-10 (.868) and never failed to advance to the semifinals round of sectionals. The Blue Devils are the #1 seeds in this year’s Section V Class C1 Tournament and play their opening round match Friday, Oct. 27 against the winner of Williamson-North Rose-Wolcott. Congratulations, ladies - we can’t wait to see what you do in sectionals! (Photos courtesy of Brennan Bezon)

Our elementary schoolers are in the midst of their tumbling unit in physical education class. We stopped by one of Mr. Shawn Fromwiller’s classes last week to check it out and boy, do we wish we were back in elementary school - it looked so fun!

We had a blast Friday afternoon at our Best Buddies Get-Together at Attica Elementary School. Buddies got together in the multi-purpose room for some Halloween-themed activities, with younger students rotating through different stations manned by our high schoolers. The buddies played Halloween bingo, painted pumpkins, pinned the spider on the web, went pumpkin and scooter bowling, made mummies out of each other using AMPLE amounts of toilet paper and even crafted cotton ball ghosts before enjoying some cider, donuts and cupcakes. Best Buddies is an international, non-profit organization that creates opportunities for elementary and middle school students with disabilities to build relationships with high school-age mentors. Through planned social events, the "Buddies" gain self-advocacy skills, increase social communication, inclusivity and connections in order to feel more secure and valued.

Eddie, a representative of Yangs 5th Taste, stopped by Attica earlier this month to help students taste test a new menu item - sweet chili Thai chicken. This was officially named students’ favorite taste test ever and the sweet chili Thai chicken will be available for purchase as an entree item in our cafeterias on Nov. 15. Next taste test is New York Meatballs from Slate Foods on Friday, Oct. 27 - we can’t wait! (Photos courtesy of Alicia Spoth)

We almost forgot to share some photos from our Future Farmers of America chapter’s annual trip to Camp Oswegatchie in Croghan, NY, last month. This week, for School Board Appreciation Week, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Board of Education members - Christopher Day, Thane Wright, Susan Herman, Brian Fugle, Pamela Rudolph, Michael Janes and Lyman Rudgers - for their continued commitment to our school district, students and community. At our board of education meeting last week, we presented each member with a small gift bag as a token of our appreciation for all that they do. In each bag were a few goodies courtesy of our Future Farmers of America chapter as well as an Attica Blue Devils water bottle from our Middle School Compact Team and a drink coaster made by Mr. John Versage’s technology students.
