Congratulations to Attica senior Ryan Meides for being chosen as one of Section V's 9 scholarship winners. Besides submitting his application, Ryan had to write 2 essays. The first one, pertained to what lessons he learned from participating in athletics and secondly, what role those lessons will play in his future endeavors. On behalf of the Attica Athletic Department, I would like to wish Ryan the best of luck as he moves on to the next stage of his life.

Happy Juneteenth, Attica!
Our nation’s newest federal holiday can trace its roots to June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger announced to the people of Galveston, Tx., General Order No. 3, which served to formally inform Texas residents that slavery had ended.
As President Joe Biden observed during a recent concert in celebration of the holiday at the White House, “Juneteenth, as a federal holiday, is meant to breathe new life into the very essence of America, to make sure all Americans feel the power of this day and the progress we can make as a country; to choose love over hate, unity over disunion, and progress over retreat.”
The accompanying photograph shows a celebration of Emancipation Day - a precursor to Juneteenth - in Richmond, Virginia, circa 1905.
Attica Central School District was well represented at the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge last night in Buffalo.
Congratulations to our team for their participation in the 3.5-mile run/walk event.
It was a great time enjoying each other's company and we have set a recruitment goal for the 2024 event to have 100 employees participate.

FARM TO SCHOOL: Remember Norman, the grow tower our elementary school students loaded up with lettuce and herb seedlings back in March?
Well, we checked in on Norman recently and boy - his seedlings are growing like, well… weeds!
Those basil leaves definitely have us craving some pesto…
Our third graders had an amazing time learning about ancient civilizations, weather, life cycles, animals, electricity and simple machines at the Rochester Museum & Science Center last week!
One of the highlights of the field trip was the museum’s new Wonders of Water exhibit, which featured hands-on experiences for our students to interact with.

Members of our 5th/6th grade chorus under the direction of Mrs. Julie Daley performed at the Darien Lake Music Festival June 9.
Our student musicians did an amazing job, even singing one of their songs a capella when the accompanying music didn’t work.
As a result of all their hard work, our students’ performance earned them a score of 97.3 and a second place finish!
It was a great afternoon of music (and a few rides, too).

FARM TO SCHOOL: Our latest taste testing event this past Friday was doubly enjoyable for students.
First, students sampled chocolate milk from The Vintage Cow and got to meet with owner and farmer Katie Carpenter.
Then, students tried the new peanut butter and jelly yogurt parfait which our food service staff will be offering regularly during lunchtimes next school year.

Our Board of Education approved tenure for Carrie Willey, Ryanne Glowny and Laura Williams at its June 8 meeting. Willey and Glowny are teachers and Williams is a teaching assistant.
Not pictured are Dawn Wolcott and Wendy Jerge, who were also granted tenure this past school year.

As they were lining up in the hallway yesterday, one of our kindergarteners enthusiastically told us that they were high schoolers now (before immediately launching into a story about their mom’s pet bearded lizard and how fast it was growing).
While they aren’t quite high schoolers yet, yesterday was nevertheless a big day for our kindergarteners as they “graduated” from kindergarten and are now looking forward to moving up to the big, bad 1st grade next year.
Congratulations to our kindergarteners on their achievement - we can’t wait to celebrate with you again in 2035 when you walk across our stage as high school seniors!
