We want to make Attica Central School District residents aware of a program that can help cover the cost of Internet access at home.
The Affordable Connectivity Program is an initiative of the Federal Communications Commission that helps connect families and households struggling to afford internet service. The Affordable Connectivity Program provides:
• An up to $30 per month discount for broadband service; and
• A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet purchased through a participating provider if the household contributes more than $10 but less than $50 toward the purchase price.
Families approved to receive free or reduced price meals under the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program may be eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program. You may also qualify if your household income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines or if a member of your family participates in certain federal assistance programs like SNAP, Medicaid or WIC, among others.
To learn more about the Affordable Connectivity Program, go online to GetInternet.gov at the link below. From here, you can submit an application online or print one out application and mail it in.
You may also be able to contact your preferred, participating Internet service provider, select a plan and have the discount applied to your bill.

Attica Central School District was recently notified by its dairy supplier, Upstate Niagara Cooperative, that a nationwide shortage of half-pint paper milk cartons will affect its ability to supply its customers - including Attica.
In light of this anticipated shortage, Attica Central School District will be purchasing half-gallon containers of milk instead of half-pint containers.
In the elementary school, food service staff will be pouring cups of milk for students at lunch time. In the middle and high schools, our food service staff has set up a self-service station where students can pour their own cup of milk.
In its recent communication with our district, Upstate Niagara stated the shortage may resolve in early 2024 and that it’s working with its own vendors to try to speed that timeline along.
Questions should be directed to Food Service Director Kris Wicks at kwicks@atticacsd.org or (585) 591-0400, ext. 1195.
We’re proud to support our local dairy producers and offer milk to our students however we can!
Your Blue Devils will be well-represented tonight at the Eddie Meath All-Star Football Game.
Representing the Attica cheerleading squad will be senior Julianna Keicher while seniors Case Hill, Landyn Thomas, Clayton Bezon and Trent Woods will compete on the field as members of the West Team.
Tonight’s game will be played at the University of Rochester’s Fauver Stadium, Library Road, Rochester.
Tickets are $10 (cash only) at the gate.
Proceeds from the game will benefit Golisano's Children Hospital, so don’t miss it!
Our Mighty Marching Blue Devils were out in force earlier this month for Attica’s annual Veterans Appreciation Parade!
Few shots of our student musicians in action, courtesy of Band Director Amanda Hofheins - including a couple of them playing outside Gateway Home for a current resident who’s the wife of a veteran.
This past weekend, Kate Metzger and Kara Hassenfratz traveled to Rush-Henrietta Senior High School to perform as part of the New York State School Music Association’s Area All-State Treble Choir!
Kate and Kara were selected for this prestigious ensemble based on their performance last year at NYSSMA’s Solo Festival.
They performed under the direction of Dr. Doreen Fryling, an associate professor of music at Hofstra University, alongside the best vocalists in NYSSMA’s eight-county Zone 2 region.
The group sounded fantastic (obviously). Check out a little snippet from one of their rehearsals in the video linked below!
Well done, ladies!

Our Future Farmers of America chapter held its annual legislative breakfast this morning.
This year, we played host to FFA chapters from Warsaw and Letchworth central schools as well as a panel of agricultural industry experts.
After grabbing a bite in our auditorium foyer, chapter members headed into the auditorium for a panel discussion. Our panelists went over their background in agriculture, their professional experience and some of the chief issues facing the industry today. Afterwards, there was a Q&A.
Thank you to our panelists for taking the time to come speak with FFA members today!
Panelists were:
State Sen. George Borrello (R-57th)
Jocelyn Sikorski: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wyoming County
Pat McCormick: Wyoming County Farm Bureau

Many thanks to the New York Maple Producers Association for bringing their Maple Experience trailer to Attica today.
Our students learned a lot about the maple production process, ecology and industry - and had a good time doing it!
We’re excited to announce the New York Maple Producers Association will be bringing their mobile maple trailer to our district tomorrow - Friday, Nov. 17.
Volunteers with the association will be showcasing the maple production process, ecology, connections and industry using their interactive exhibit, which they house in a 24-foot mobile trailer.
The trailer will be parked in front of our auditorium and classes will be visiting throughout the day.

John Whalen, co-founder of EdTomorrow, a company that specializes in the implementation of restorative and social-emotional learning practices in school settings, spent the past couple of days visiting classrooms at Attica Elementary School to lead students in “circles.”
Circles are a cornerstone of restorative practices. They’re typically used to foster a climate of trust and support among a group of peers and are an important tool for helping students learn about one another and develop positive relationships.
Thanks for stopping by, John - our students learned a lot!
In the accompanying photos, Whalen is shown leading a circle in Mrs. Kennedy’s and Mrs. Lathigee’s fourth grade class.

A reminder - there is no school tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 10, 2023 - due to Veterans Day falling on a Saturday this year.
Enjoy the long weekend, Blue Devils Nation!
Our elementary schoolers welcomed veterans from Attica’s American Legion Harder-O’Donnell Post 734 to their monthly assembly last week.
Select students from each grade read prepared statements about why they value veterans before our entire student body came together to sing an armed forces medley, recognizing each of the five branches of the U.S. Military - the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.
To wrap things up, our students and staff gave attending veterans a standing ovation as a thank you for their service.
Check out the video linked below for scenes from the assembly!
Don’t forget - Veterans Day is this Saturday, Nov. 11, so make sure you reach out to the veterans in your life to thank them for their sacrifice!

FARM TO SCHOOL: Our yogurt parfait bar was a hit with students and staff alike earlier this week at Attica Elementary School!
Students enjoyed trying out the new offering throughout the day Monday and gained additional exposure to our elementary school’s new salad bar obtained thanks to a grant from the American Dairy Association North East.
Next Tuesday, Nov. 14, the salad bar will once again feature yogurt parfait fixings our elementary school students can use to build their own parfait meal during lunch!

Adults weren’t the only ones to head to the polls yesterday.
As part of a lesson about elections, first graders in Dylah Fagan’s class turned to the ballot box to finally settle the much-debated question of which cookie is best - Oreos or chocolate chip.
“We started off by talking about what Election Day is, why and how we vote, and what happens after the voting takes place,” Fagan explained. “Then, we had our own class election for our favorite cookie.”
After each student cast their ballot, Fagan tallied up the results and determined her class preferred Oreos to chocolate chip cookies by an 11-7 margin.
“After we voted and found out that Oreo is the favorite, we of course had to celebrate by eating both kinds of cookies,” said Fagan.
