Almost forgot to share these photos! Earlier this month, our sixth graders took a field trip to the Penn Dixie Fossil Park & Nature Reserve in Blasdell. The students had a great time, searching for different types of fossils and were even able to take the fossils home with them. Each class had a guide and went to 4 different stations to learn about different fossils that would be discovered there. (Photos courtesy of Allison Cali)

Our third graders headed to the Rochester Museum and Science Center earlier this month for a field trip. “The students had a fun-filled day exploring the museum, participating in the interactive exhibits, and observing a star show in the planetarium,” said 3rd Grade Teacher Cheryl Allein. The Attica Lions Club has named Matt Struzik as its Citizen of the Year for 2024! Struzik, an English teacher at Attica High School, was presented with the award at the Lions’ June 15 meeting. Outgoing Lions Club President Jeff Peters nominated Struzik for the award, citing his unsurpassed dedication to those in need which “often goes unnoticed by the general public” and especially his work as advisor of the We Care Club in the high school. “The club provides on average, 40 families in the Attica area a Thanksgiving meal. They provide non-perishable items as well as gift cards to Tops for turkeys so that families can have a fulfilling Thanksgiving - something that might not be available if it were not for him,” said Peters. “In addition to this, Matt and his club also spearhead a Christmas drive for children who are less fortunate. On average, they help about 45 families and 125 children, from infants to 18, each Christmas. Their busiest year, they helped 148 children.” This marks the second straight year one of our Attica faculty members has been recognized as Citizen of the Year by the Lions Club after Becki Peters received the honor in 2023. Hard NOT to be Blue Devils proud when you work with colleagues like these! Congratulations, Mr. Struzik! (Photo courtesy of Becki Peters)

We had a perfectly nice and normal assembly planned this morning on our kiddos’ last day of school - a little fresh air, a little dancing, a little 90s nostalgia. Turns out our elementary school teachers and staff had other ideas. Click on the link below to check it out! Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcbddfL1J_4

Our fifth graders and members of local law enforcement agencies assembled on the turf of Alumni Field this morning for their annual Cops vs Kids Kickball game! It was a hard fought game, but in the end members of law enforcement defended their title against our fifth graders. Many thanks to the Attica Police Department, New York State Police, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Corrections and Community Supervision for participating in today’s game - you made our kids’ day! Earlier this week, our sixth graders participated in a simulation activity designed to mimic the experience of traders and merchants who operated along the Silk Road, the ancient Eurasian trade network. Tuesday afternoon, four Middle School classrooms became four key cities along the Silk Road while students were assigned the roles of traveling merchants and shopkeepers and all tasked with the goal of making beneficial trades and accumulating wealth. Traveling from city to city in caravans, students had to be on the lookout for roving bandits, portrayed with enthusiastic aplomb by staff members, who might steal their precious trade goods. And when crossing the Mediterranean from Rome to Antioch, students tried their best to steer clear of storms, i.e. other staff members armed with spray bottles. This was a great way for our sixth graders to wrap up their study of ancient civilizations throughout this school year and gain a better, firsthand understanding of the impact the Silk Road played on human history!

Oh, and did we mention that before they wowed at the Red Wings game our 5th/6th grade chorus ALSO took second place at the Darien Lake Music Festival? It’s true! Competing against 6 other schools, our students scored a 97.3 to take the second place spot. And what better way to celebrate a second place finish than with a day of fried foods and roller coasters?! Head on over to our Facebook page at the link below for a full photo album from students' trip! We're super proud of our 5th and 6th grade chorus members who kicked off the Rochester Red Wings’ June 12 game against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders with the singing of the National Anthem! “They received a lot of compliments on what a great job they did,” said Chorus Director Mrs. Julie Daley. “We’re so proud of them!” Check out the video of our chorus’s performance and a photo album of their trip to Innovative Field in Rochester at the links below.
